OPEN
is the topic of today's Illustration Friday! I was very happy to see this theme, as I have quite a little thing about open boxes as characters in my still-life paintings. There is something so generous-looking about an open box, as well as it being (to me) of "architectural" interest!

Ducky Buns Oil on canvas 16 x 20 inches

Beautiful lighting here. Your still lifes always take my breath away. I mean, who'd ever think of putting donuts and a rubber duck into a composition, yet you are a master at this by being able to see and paint the beauty in everything.

Very beautiful, Nancy Bea. Your still lives are always very engaging, your choice of objects, colors and the wonderful use of light.

The visual rhyme of the duck and bread loaves makes such a wonderful setting, as does that beautiful red and blue/green texture.

Mmmmm.. this is just so yummy looking. The open box, the loaves, the tone, texture, and warmth of the painting all work so well together. The mood you have created is one of those times when the light bathes an object in that perfect moment. And you have captured the moment to be revisited over and over again.

Thanks so much for you kind comments about my work. I have to say that your oil painting is amazing, I was never any good with oil paints and I'm still working on my watercolour technique.
Open boxes is a great idea, I have a thing for boxes too, they're just so useful and there's something satisfiying about opening a box to find what's inside and about hiding things within them. Boxes are a bit like books really, possible portals to new exciting things, or very old memories.
I hope you had a lovely weekend,
Mary

Hi Nancy,
Oh, your paintings are most divine!
Open boxes do lend themselves to giving and generousity don't they?

It makes me think there is something delicious and inviting in the box. So intriguing.

Fantastic painting - really interesting contrast between the muted colours and air of mystery - and the subject matter itself. The sort of painting that makes you think about it, and what's behind those open boxes - really starts to trigger off the imagination!

Ah, just sublime. I know how much I love a painting, by how much I'd like to be a part of it. I want to sit in the beatiful lighting, with the little duck, open box, and fresh bread.
