HORIZON
is the theme of the week at Illustration Friday. I thought this little painting might fit the bill. Painted on the beach on Chincoteague Island a summer or two ago.

The Red Umbrella, oil on canvas laid to board, 4 x 6 inches

This is really nice. Especially since it is so grey and dreary and cold where I live, this painting feels so serene and warm.

She is beautifully frozen in time, forever getting a sunburn, because her red umbrella isn't open! :)

She looks so contemplative. Lovely piece of work.

a splash or two of red always make a painting. i will get that book thanx, and i certainly don't want to join a book club either!

Nancy, your paintings are exquisite. Such texture and calm. I remember when you were struggling with computer programs. This is your element. I have goosebumps looking at this.

This has the lonely vibe of a Hopper painting, and the composition is so interesting, with the umbrella in the center, it works in a compelling way, and the colors look great, the sprinkling of red throughout.

I really love this. It takes me back to my childhood. We would camp at Assateague Island. You truly captured the "a day at the beach" feeling.

Have a joyful and inspiring new year!

we've had an extremely hot (this is Sweden) summer so far and we have a lovely litte "beach" close by where we go swimming. your beach is something else though. it's like going back in time, with no worries or global warmings... I'd love to go there. beautiful painting!
